Who You Are Talking To
Leslie Brewer, CRNP
A board-certified nurse practitioner practicing in pediatrics, with fourteen years in nursing and nine as a nurse practitioner. Her career began in acute bedside care, and she founded On Call Peds Care to give families the kind of guidance that is hard to get in a ten minute appointment.
She is also a mother of five, which is its own kind of qualification at 3 a.m.
Common Questions
Before you book
Can you tell me if my baby is sick?
No, and please do not wait on a call if you are worried about that. Assessing whether a specific child is unwell is medical care, and outside Alabama that has to come from your own pediatrician or urgent care. If something feels wrong today, call them rather than booking this.
Can I send photos of a rash or send test results?
No. Looking at images or results to form an opinion about your child is exactly the line this call does not cross. What we can do is help you describe what you are seeing clearly and work out what to ask your pediatrician about it.
Then what am I actually getting?
Time with a pediatric clinician who will explain what is commonly seen, help you make sense of the pattern you are describing, give you practical things to try, and send you into your next appointment knowing what to ask. A lot of parents find that more useful than another opinion, because it is the part nobody has time to give them.
Do I need to be in Alabama?
No. This call is available anywhere in the United States, precisely because it is education rather than medical care. Families in Alabama can also book medical telehealth visits, where diagnosis and treatment are possible.
What if something comes up that you cannot answer?
She will tell you plainly, and tell you who to take it to. That happens on some calls and it is a useful outcome rather than a failed one.
Can we cover more than one child?
Yes. Tell us when you book so the time gets planned properly.
Is this the same as a newborn class?
They overlap. A private newborn class is longer and follows a broader curriculum. This call is shorter and built entirely around the questions you arrive with.
