Weighted feeds, on demand
Your nurse can weigh your baby before and after a feed, any night you want it, so you know what they actually took rather than guessing from the clock. What the number means is a conversation for your IBCLC or pediatrician.

What's Included
Swipe through what a shift includes, or call and we will walk you through what fits your family.
Your nurse can weigh your baby before and after a feed, any night you want it, so you know what they actually took rather than guessing from the clock. What the number means is a conversation for your IBCLC or pediatrician.
COVID, flu and strep testing for your baby and for anyone else in the house. Older children bring things home from school, and with a newborn that is a question you want answered tonight rather than in a waiting room.
Your nurse is not working alone. There is clinical oversight behind her, and where a prescription is appropriate, our nurse practitioner provides it.
Bottle feeds, paced feeding, and bringing baby to you for breastfeeding, then handling the settle so you go straight back to sleep.
Your nurse responds each time your baby wakes, works through fussiness and reflux discomfort, and helps your baby settle back to sleep.
You wake to a written log of feeds, sleep stretches, and anything worth watching, plus time to ask questions before your nurse leaves.

Scope
Overnight care is centered on your baby and your recovery. On Call Peds Care provides private-pay, in-home newborn support. It is not medically ordered home health, private-duty nursing, or a substitute for your pediatrician or emergency care.

Questions
Not necessarily. Night nurse, night nanny, baby nurse and newborn care specialist are often used interchangeably, and the title on its own does not tell you what training sits behind it. A night nurse is not always a nurse. Every overnight shift we staff is worked by a licensed registered nurse, and nursing licenses are public and verifiable through the Alabama Board of Nursing in about two minutes.
Yes. We cover Crestline Village, English Village, Mountain Brook Village, Cahaba Village and Overton, along with the rest of the Birmingham metropolitan area. Tell us your address and the nights you are considering and we will confirm availability.
Yes. Most families come home from UAB Women and Infants Center, UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham, or Brookwood Baptist, and we start once you are settled at home. You do not need a referral, and there is no medical order involved. This is private-pay, in-home newborn care that you arrange directly.
No. You can book a single night, a few nights a week, or every night for a stretch. Many providers require a block of nights. We build the schedule around which nights are hardest for your family.
Your nurse is a licensed registered nurse and does not prescribe. Where a prescription is appropriate, our nurse practitioner provides it. Your nurse follows the plan you and your pediatrician have already agreed, documents what happens overnight, and tells you when something needs your pediatrician.
Yes. Your nurse is awake for the whole shift. Both approaches exist in this industry, awake care and sleeping between wakings, and they are different services. Ours is awake care, so someone is watching your baby rather than waiting to be woken.
Most families reach out during the third trimester, but plenty call in the first weeks after coming home. There is no wrong time to ask. If your due date moves, we adjust the schedule with you.

What Families Say
“Having On Call Peds Care there to care for our newborn overnight gave my wife and me the rest we desperately needed. That extra sleep did not just make us feel better, it made us better parents. If you are on the fence about night nursing, I cannot recommend them highly enough. It was worth every penny.”
“On Call Peds Care is the best decision my husband and I made postpartum. Leslie and her team provided the most personalized care for me and my baby. Knowing you have medical professionals watching after your child while you sleep brings a peace I truly cannot explain.”
“Having a reflux baby made nights so hard and left me exhausted and unsure how to help. Bringing in a nurse was such a gift. She helped us get our girl comfortable, reset, and start learning to self-soothe. So grateful for the support of an RN and NP who helped us create a plan.”
