What is daytime newborn care?

Daytime newborn care is scheduled in-home support during waking hours. A nurse cares for your baby across a set shift, including feeding, changes, soothing, and safe sleep, while you rest or attend to the rest of your life. Parents stay in the home and are as involved as they want to be.

What's Included

What this service covers

Swipe through what a shift includes, or call and we will walk you through what fits your family.

Protected sleep for you

The most common reason families book daytime care is to catch up on the sleep the night took. Your nurse handles everything while you go back to bed.

Feeding through the day

Bottle feeds, paced feeding, and bringing baby to you if you are breastfeeding, then taking over the settle.

Room for older children

School runs, homework, a birthday party, or simply sitting on the floor with a toddler who has been waiting for you.

Appointments and errands

Your own postpartum checkups, a dentist visit, or the grocery trip that has been impossible for three weeks.

Naps in a safe setup

Daytime sleep in a safe sleep space, following the same guidance we use overnight.

A written handover

Feeds, diapers, and sleep recorded so you can see the shape of the day without asking.

    • Naps in a safe sleep space
    • Bottles and pump parts washed
    • Recording feeds, diapers, and sleep
  3. Before leaving

    • A written summary of the day
    • Anything worth mentioning to your pediatrician
    • Bottles ready for the evening

Your Nurse

Who we send into your home

You are letting someone into your home. Here is what stands behind the person who arrives.

Leslie Brewer, CRNP, founder of On Call Peds Care, with her family
An active Alabama RN license
Current, in good standing, and recorded before a nurse is assigned to your family.
Pediatric or postpartum experience
NICU, pediatrics, postpartum, labor and delivery, or pediatric urgent care. Not general childcare.
Current certifications on file
Applicable credentials, which may include BLS, PALS, and NRP, are recorded at onboarding, along with years of clinical experience.
Led by a pediatric nurse practitioner
Leslie Brewer, CRNP, leads the clinical policies, nurse onboarding, and family support approach the team works to.
Matched to your family, not just to the calendar
Matched on your feeding plan and schedule, not on whoever happens to be free.
A calm presence at 3 a.m.
Your nurse may be the only healthcare professional physically present overnight, so calm judgment, clear boundaries, and timely escalation matter as much as a resume.

Questions

Common questions about this service

Can I sleep while the nurse is here?

Yes, and most families do. Daytime care exists largely because the nights are hard. Your nurse manages feeds and settling so you get an uninterrupted stretch.

Do I have to leave the house?

Not at all. Plenty of parents stay home and sleep, shower, or spend the time with an older child. Others use the shift for appointments and errands. Both are normal.

How is this different from a babysitter?

Your nurse is a licensed registered nurse with pediatric experience. That matters most when something is not right: an RN recognizes changes in feeding, breathing, and alertness and knows when to escalate to your pediatrician.

Can I book daytime and overnight care together?

Yes. Some families use overnight care in the first weeks and daytime shifts later, others mix both in the same week. Tell us what your days actually look like and we will work from there.

What is the shortest shift you offer?

Shifts typically run four to eight hours. Shorter shifts are sometimes possible depending on nurse availability and travel, so ask.

What Families Say

Reviews

“Having On Call Peds Care there to care for our newborn overnight gave my wife and me the rest we desperately needed. That extra sleep did not just make us feel better, it made us better parents. If you are on the fence about night nursing, I cannot recommend them highly enough. It was worth every penny.”

Steven B. Overnight client, Birmingham

“On Call Peds Care is the best decision my husband and I made postpartum. Leslie and her team provided the most personalized care for me and my baby. Knowing you have medical professionals watching after your child while you sleep brings a peace I truly cannot explain.”

Maddie Client, Birmingham

“Having a reflux baby made nights so hard and left me exhausted and unsure how to help. Bringing in a nurse was such a gift. She helped us get our girl comfortable, reset, and start learning to self-soothe. So grateful for the support of an RN and NP who helped us create a plan.”
